BCU Level 1 Kayak Course

Discover the basic skills of kayaking today. With a qualified instructor by your side complete your BCU level 1 within a fun and friendly environment. Choose from a number of rafts, including sit on tops to racing canoes and master the art of manoeuvring yourself around the various obstacles and challenges. Kayaking has plenty of disciplinaries to progress into, from surfing the waves to exploring inland waterways, so step into a world of adventure with this incredibly in-depth course!

Agenda

Once you have arrived and been welcomed to the centre your experience will begin with a full safety briefing and introduction to your BCU level 1 certificate. You will learn about the theory, water safety considerations and the functions of the equipment with a land-based lesson, before jumping in the water to have a go. Learn the basic paddling technique, covering moving forwards and backwards, turning and journeying with a hands-on experience, before practising some more with an open canoeing session. The criteria of the BCU course is set and assessed according to the British Canoe Union. Your experience will draw to a close with a de-brief back at the centre, including a discussion of the techniques learnt and presentation of your personalised certificate.

Restrictions
Minimum Age: 16
Under 18's must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Please let the centre know if you are not confident within the water.
If you are extraordinarily tall or short, or feel that your physique may impair your enjoyment of this activity in any way, please check with the centre when booking.

Duration
This experience lasts approximately 6 hours.

What to Wear / Equipment
Please bring a swimsuit, towel, sun cream and a warm change of clothes to the centre.
All specialised equipment will be provided by the centre.

Group Size / Spectators
This experience is great for both individuals and groups alike.
Spectators welcome.

This experience can be affected by extreme weather conditions. If in doubt, please contact the centre on the day to make sure it is going ahead.
