Discover Gorge Walking & Kayaking

This fantastic combo experience gives you the chance to enjoy both Gorge Walking (or Canyoning as it is known in other parts of the world) and flat water Kayaking! Gorge Walking is simply you, your buoyancy aid and whatever is in your way! Up, down, across or through - it's over to you and your team to successfully make your way through any terrain that is in your way! Then, you'll get on the water for a Kayaking lesson to get to grips with the basic skills required for this popular watersport!

Agenda

Once you have arrived and been welcomed to the centre your day will begin with a safety brief and you'll get kitted out with the necessary gear for your first activity.

Kayaking
This is a safe enjoyable session to show you what kayaking is all about. Your instructor will teach you a variety of essential flat water paddling skills - you'll learn to paddle in a straight line forwards and backwards (not as easy as it sounds!), turn around, move your boat sideways and stop, whilst playing a few games and going on a journey. You might even get a bit wet!

Gorge Walking
Your instructor will guide you as you make your way up (or down) a narrow, deep cleft carved in the side of a mountain by the river. You'll find yourself wading, swimming, sliding down rocks, jumping into pools and swimming underneath waterfalls, and you'll have a great time traversing anything in your way! Your qualified instructor will explain about your day and give you the addresses for both the kayaking and gorge walking locations. Please note you will need to make your own way down to the activities (kayaking approximately 2 miles from the centre and gorge walking 13 miles away).

Kayaking
This is a safe enjoyable session to show you what kayaking is all about. Restrictions
Minimum Age: 14
Maximum Weight: 16 stone / Chest Size 48 (roughly)

All Participants must be confident in open water and be able to swim 25m with flotation device.
Under 18's need to be accompanied by an adult.
Gorge Walking is not suitable if you are pregnant.

You will be required to use your own transport to get to and from the activity sites. If you will not have transport available you must let the centre know AT THE TIME OF BOOKING A DATE.

Duration
This experience will last all day, with one half dedicated to Gorge Walking and the other dedicated to Kayaking.

What to Wear / Equipment
All specialist equipment such as wetsuit, buoyancy aid and helmet will be provided by the centre. You should take your swim suit, a towel, a spare pair of trainers and a pair of baggy shorts. You'll also need warm clothing to change into afterwards.

Group Size / Spectators
Due to the nature of the terrain Gorge Walking is not suitable for spectators, however they will be able to attend the Kayaking session.

Weather
Gorge Walking experiences operate in most conditions but may be affected by extreme weather conditions or flooding if the rivers are too swollen. Please check with the centre on the day or the day before your experience.

Availability
The Discover Gorge Walking & Kayaking experience is available all year round, on weekdays and on weekends.
