RYA L1 Windsurfing

Windsurfing is one of the most exciting and vibrant watersports available today. Using old techniques to harness the wind’s power, you will gain some serious speed and air (eventually!) from timing your technique and skill to perfection. With the introduction of technology to an old sport and its equipment, windsurfing is now very easy to pick up and have a go for yourself. The RYA Level 1 windsurfing course is a two day course for people who are serious about learning to windsurf, or if you have a little experience in the sport. The most essential quality required is a desire to learn it though, as it is by no means an easy sport. However, it is a fantastically enjoyable sport that will provide endless entertainment and extremely good exercise! The RYA Level 1 certificate allows you to hire equipment at RYA centres worldwide - under supervision.

Agenda

Through out the two day course you will learn the basics of windsurfing. The course covers many of the essential techniques including an introduction to the board and rig, all of the simulator work on land and the balancing and rig handling techniques. You will also be learning how to control upwind & downwind windsurfing, safety & self rescue techniques. There will also be plenty of on-water practicing under the watchful eye of your instructor. By the end of the course you will be able to competently sail an area and be ready to move your skills on even further. Logbook and handbooks are included in the cost of the course and given upon completion of the R.Y.A. certificate.

Restrictions
Age requirements: Min age 16 in most locations.
At Manchester Location Min age is 16
At Nottingham Location Min age is 16 and Max weight is 114kg / 18 stone (chest size 122cm / 48 inch).
All under 18's must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
All participants must be confident in the water and able to swim 50m unaided.

Duration
This is a 2 day course, exact timings vary between locations.

What to Wear / Equipment
All specialized equipment is provided – e.g. wetsuits, buoyancy aids windsurf boards and rigs. Take a swim suit & towel and sun block if it is hot and warm clothes to change into if its not.

Group Size / Spectators
There will be a maximum of six windsurfers per instructor, group size varies dependent on location.  Spectators are welcome at most centres, please check when booking.

Weather
Windsurfing courses can be weather dependent and in extreme circumstances the course may be affected. Please check with the centre prior to arrival.
