Half Day RIB Ride

Indulge yourself with a stunning RIB tour around the Solent! This half day experience combines the history of Portsmouth Harbour, and the sights and sounds of the Solent together with an opportunity to enjoy the thrill of powering across the waves at speeds of over 50 mph! Your RIB will be helmed by an experienced, commercial skipper who’s knowledge of the waters and area will allow you a glimpse of this amazing waterway, never seen from the ferry or shoreline. The RIB will blast you westwards at a pulse quickening rate leaving all other craft receding into the far distance, and the skipper will show you just how these versatile craft can handle the waters of the Solent. You will stop in the scenic old yachting town of Cowes, on the Isle of Wight for a drink/snack break at an old waterside smugglers inn, before rejoining the RIB for another heart-stopping blast back across the Solent to Portsmouth and home.

Agenda

On your arrival you will be welcomed by the staff who will ask you to sign in, and will then familiarise you with the experience. You will then be introduced to your skipper and issued with life jackets and waterproofs as required. The skipper will then guide you down to the pontoons where a pre-boarding safety brief will be given. After familiarisation with the vessel you’ll depart Gunwharf Quay for a brief tour of Portsmouth’s historic harbour before heading out into the Solent. You’ll weave amongst the Napoleonic stone forts that span the Solent (The Palmerston Follies) then head west to Cowes, viewing Priory Bay, then Queen Victoria’s summer palace, Osbourne House. Then it’s off again to Cowes, to enjoy the ambience of lunch/drinks among the ancient cobbled streets and alley ways of this sailing mecca. Finally you depart the Isle of Wight, to head back east towards the inspiring Spinnaker Tower, during which time the skipper will put the RIB through it’s paces.

Age Restrictions: 12-70 Years: Old (Under 16's need to be with parent / guardian)

All participants are required to sign a disclaimer.
Disabled access is limited, please call the centre to discuss possibilities.
Not suitable for those with back, neck or heart complaints, or pregnant women.

Duration
Please arrive at the centre 30 minutes before the experience is due to start. The Half Day RIB Excursion will last for approx 3 - 3 ½ hours.

What to Wear / Equipment
You will be provided with a life jacket.
Please bring: Sunglasses, Suntan lotion and a warm clothing item as necessary.
Please wear a T-Shirt, Jeans or casual clothes plus soft soled shoes or trainers (and a change of clothes for your return as there’s the distinct possibility of getting wet!)

Group Size / Spectators
Spectators are welcome to come to the site, and departures / returns can be viewed, although the majority of the experience cannot be viewed from the shore line. However, this experience operates from Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth harbor - which is a major retail destination, and combines some 30 bars and restaurants to entertain your friends and family as they await your return!
