The Lamborghini Gallardo Roadster represents a milestone for Lamborghini for many reasons, not least because it is their most produced model to date. It has been a roaring success with enthusiasts seeking a stylish alternative to the Ferrari 360. The name Gallardo is taken from a famous breed of fighting bull, as featured in the Lamborghini logo. The rear biased all wheel drive system differentiates the stunning Gallardo from its more common rivals employing rear wheel drive setups. Audi's ownership of Lamborghini has of course influenced the all wheel drive system having found so much success with the AWD Quattro range. Unlike most previous Lamborghini's, the Gallardo does not have scissor doors but is now the only Lamborghini to use the V10 engine. The SE was introduced in 2005 and is distinguished from the regular Gallardo externally by having a black-roofed two-tone color scheme as well as specially designed "Callisto" rims shod with Pirelli tires. The Roadster is also considered such a fine vehicle as it tackles many of the criticisms people had of the original Gallardo; the steering is quicker and more responsive, the transmission gear ratios have been adjusted to better suit the V10, and the E-gear now has a "thrust mode" to optimize acceleration. The Gallardo Roadster has also seen its horse power increased to 520bhp (388 kW). The Gallardo Roadster has a top speed of 196mph and will accelerate from 0 to 100mph 6.4 seconds. The connection and close working relationship with Audi has enabled the Gallardo to improve on its predecessors by offering a more comfortable ride with luxuries as an iPod connection, rear camera and satellite navigation system amongst other newly added features.
