Take to the waters for a weekend sailing lesson in Dorset and experience an in-depth insight into the world of controlling a Yacht. With an expert skipper and a crew of fellow students, you will be mastering skills such as knot tying, sail handling, mooring and many other of the essential skills required to sail. Your overnight stay onboard the yacht will include shared cooking and tea making - all part of the sailing experience! Not just fantastic fun, this magnificent introduction to sailing counts toward your RYA Competent Crew Award.

Agenda

Once you have arrived and been welcomed to the Dorset centre, your weekend sailing lesson will begin with a customary meet and greet where you'll discuss the weekend's activities over a brew. Then, once briefed and buoyed - you'll be ready to get out and begin the Sailing skills learning, with sail handling, knot tying, steering and other essential techniques. Over the course of the weekend you will be expected to fully submerge yourself in the activities and duties onboard, giving you a fully authentic feel... whilst teaching you some vital aspects of yacht sailing for yourself.

Restrictions
Minimum Age: 16

Sailing can be enjoyed by just about anyone - so long as you can swim at least 50m and have a reasonable level of fitness.

Duration
The course is a minimum of two days, please check with the centre for exact times as these can vary slightly.

What to Wear / Equipment
Be prepared for changeable weather, so bring plenty of layers including:

• Waterproofs
• Woolly H at & Gloves (for warmth and rope friction protection)
• Shades With a Retaining Strap
• Sun Cream
• Deck Boots & Non-Slip Deck Shoes / Trainers That Don’t Mark

You should bring a Sleeping Bag & Pillow and a Towel - showers will be available at any marinas you may stop at, including other basic toilet facilities (there is a pump action toilet onboard the yacht). Food will be supplied on board, cooking duties will be shared. You should bring spending money for any restaurant or pub visits. As there is limited space on board, please bring only one large bag.

Group Size / Spectators
There will be a maximum of five students per instructor.

Weather
Sailing courses can be weather dependent and in extreme circumstances the course may be affected. Please check with the centre prior to arrival.
